Our Mission & Values

Mission

Every day, Feeding Illinois members work with a statewide network of more than 2,400 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and specialized programs to distribute food to hungry people in Illinois. Delivering millions of pounds of food to every corner of our state requires coordination and commitment. Feeding hungry people in Illinois also requires funding for every step of the process - from procurement, to storage, to evaluation, to transportation and more...all to ensure the food provided to our hungry neighbors is safe and suitable. With modest budgets, the food banks serving Illinois successfully execute the complex process of making food accessible to needy children, families, individuals, and seniors.

Commitment

Feeding Illinois believes all Illinois residents deserve equitable access to nutritious, culturally familiar foods. This includes the belief that foods be locally sourced as much as possible, and most foods can fit into a balanced lifestyle of every resident with their right to choose and have access to nutritious foods that meet the needs of their household. Feeding Illinois acknowledges the central role nutrition education plays in supporting a variety of food preferences across the lifespan. To this end, Feeding Illinois will pursue efforts and partnerships that exemplify this philosophy, looking for opportunities to elevate and advance nutrition-related efforts across the Feeding Illinois network and state.
